Flush it or lose it …..

5 Jun

It has been costing North Devon Council £30 a time to change light bulbs in its toilets according to THIS article.  Wonder how much it is costing EDDC?  Might changing to LEDs save them enough to do the essential building work at Knowle?

The article goes on to say that the council is also monitoring the number of flushes at its toilets to work out where to close cubicles in the winter without inconveniencing people [laugh, laugh].  It has already slashed the number of public toilets from 72 and is building modern toilet blocks to replace old ones.  The cost of maintaining the toilets dropped from £510,000 in 2009 to £374,000 last year said the report.  Mr Cann said: “We have a duty to provide value for money and an efficient service, but there is still some way to go.

Toilets are an essentail requirement of the tourist economy and closing them in winter can seriously damage a town’s viability as people avoid towns with no toilets in winter to go to places where they know that they can “spend a penny” whilst enjoying the local attractions.

So, good people of Sidmouth, flush it or lose it!
