Paul Diviani’s “explanation” / excuse about the lack of 5 year land supply

6 Jun

HERE.  Presumably he is expecting a lot of people to ask the question: “why are we in this mess? and has had this template put together in an attempt to justify the council’s omnishambles.

One of many, many questions immediately springs to mind:  how come this situation was predicted by your own Overview and Scrutiny Committee YEARS ago (see  many earlier SIN posts on this subject) and why did you and your councillors (particulary Councillor Brown and the East Devon Business Forum) spend SO MUCH time discussing and increasing the employment land supply (which was not a critical issue) and no time at all on the shortage of housing in the Local Plan?

Perhaps you have more questions – the letter certainly begs them.

That’s where having a big majority gets you: absolute power and the potential to use it in highly questionable ways that the voters who elected you in never dreamed could ever happen. But it has.

Be sure to vote at the next district council elections, but choose carefully.

No no no. Paul is the good guy. It is the loons who caused the plan to be slowed up. Claire Wright for example. Nightmare situation yes but not Paul D’s fault. The loons have a lot to answer for – most of them from Sidmouth and Budleigh.

Recent Devon County Council election results don’t seem to back what you say, Simon B.
On 2 May, 2013, voters showed very clearly whom they have most confidence in:
      Paul Diviani 1,130 votes
      Claire Wright 2,970 votes

You also don’t seem to have heard of the East Devon Alliance. Budleigh and Sidmouth people calling the present Leader to account, are not lone (or ‘loon’) voices. Watch this space…!

What a witchhunt is going on against Independent candidates. One might think that it was orchestrated ….. or even possibly whipped.

That which does not kill me makes me stronger.

Oh, and Not a Councillor either! God forbid.

Sorry, but the culprits who caused the Local Plan to sieze up were all pre-2009 who spent all their time looking at each other’s sites and saying how wonderful they were, fiddling whilst Rome burned and wasting precious time (more than 2 years) doing so.

It’s all too easy to blame the good guys, especially if they happen not to be on your side.

It seems clear to me that a number of posts on this blog, and others, are being made by people who chose, for whatever reason, not to use their own name.

That, of course, is their prerogative.

Unless, that is, they are themselves an East Devon District Councillor using an assumed identity – Simon Beard anyone?! – to cast aspersions on others.

I’ve just taken a look at East Devon District Council’s code of conduct and there can be little doubt that such behaviour would be a clear breach of it. This being the case, would, I wonder, the owner of this blog be prepared to share the IP addresses of posters with the district council’s monitoring officer and request that she investigate?!
