And it seems that the police have been VERY quick to interview Parish Councillor Salter whereas this has not been the case with ex Parish and District Councillor Brown.

Yes that is right the police are all in on it. What is it? Who cares its a conspiracy……. Get a grip and listen to yourself. Presumably if the CPS decide to prosecute they will be in on IT as well.

That is not what I said: I do not believe the police are “in on it” at all – far from it. Only that in the case of Councillor Brown the referral to “Action Fraud” may have seriously delayed any involvement by local police.

Nor did I say (nor do I believe) there is any conspiracy – just possible cock up.

Perhaps it is Springtime who sees conspiracies where there are none …..

Not sure who Springtime is, but speaking as a sane, non-conspiracy theorist may I just say to her/him that when it comes to allegations of corruption both the police AND the CPS in Devon become very uncomfortable.

The local CPS really shouldn’t be allowed to make prosecution decisions in cases like this for blindingly obvious reasons. The overlap, both formal and informal, between the CPS, local government officers and local policing is a disincentive to timely and firmly directed investigations in instances when political figures are allegedly involved. I have seen this in action in Devon recently.

I try my very best to have faith in the justice system – but if Springtime thinks that the kind of behaviour that went on against the Lawrence family is either isolated or in the past they are, I politiely suggest, naive. Mr Salter, who I do not know, has every right to wonder why the local constabulary moved so quickly in his case and not others.

      I’m a sane non conspiracy theorist …….but.

I will tell you who I am. A local resident who believes that the police and CPS do an excellent job on our behalf, for which I am very grateful. It is not their fault that are having to investigate whether the law has been broken by someone who when they found out a planning application had gone in on property next to him, got himself elected onto his parish council to vote against it. If that happened in my town I would be rightly angry as well.

I never mentioned the outrageous behaviour of the police against the Lawerence’s, because it was 20 years ago, in London, involved phone tapping and has nothing to do with what is being discussed now. Just as I did mention Watergate or Kennedy’s shooting.

Once again Springtime attempts to put words into the mouths of other people posting comments. I also believe our police do a good job and have already said this (I have no knowledge of the CPS so cannot speak about them).

Anyone can get themselves voted on to a parish council and can be a “one issue” councillor whether than issue affects them or not – this is NOT illegal, it is democracy. You only have to see people who get elected to object to, say a road or a supermarket to see that.

You do not have to vote for the councillor if you do not want to and if a councillor is co-opted then no-one wanted to stand against them anyway. If all single issue councillors were forced to stand down half the councillors in the country would have to resign.

It seems that Councillor Salter is making some very powerful enemies.
