It seems there was a concerted and wrongful effort to bump Roger Giles from the Planning Committee at Ottery, and that he had good cause to expect this to be considered by an independent investigator, appointed by East Devon District Council.

The Monitoring Officer has instead used her authority to ensure both that the councillors responsiible are never held to account for this and that Roger is denied either an open hearing or the properly cleared name he deserves.

I can advise SIN from local experience that even if a formal investigation into a councillor found guilty of bringing his office into disrepute recommends that a troubled council be retrained the Monitoring Officer has neither the will nor the power to ensure they do so.

In conclusion, well done Roger for enduring this crap. And to the electorate out there, for heaven’s sake stand as Independents at every level in 2015 and break this hegemony once and for all.
