Parking at the Vets’ has long been a problem for Sid Valley pet owners. Is the only answer to build a new centre on farmland in Sidford’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), bringing more traffic to this part of the A3052?
The Sidmouth Herald, 17 May, has an article about the latest (third) proposal for a new Vets’ surgery that would share the Garden Centre car park owned by Councillor Ian Barlow. The Herald report shows a picture of a possible green-roofed building (but no cars near it), which might look good elsewhere.
Are there other, better, suggestions for a convenient in-town site.. away from a busy main road, perhaps?

Mr Pickles says local authorities should be more creative about how they use their buildings and having new uses for their accommodation now they are downsizing, though there seems to be no sign of this at EDDC – so is obvious – The Knowle!
Cranbrook. We don’t want any development here.
On the contrary, well thought out and well designed development in the right place would be welcomed with open arms.
As far as we know, Cranbrook isn’t part of Sidmouth/Sidford yet.
Brownfield sites for housing in Sidmouth have already been spotted by developers, as you probably know, Thermadore. Construction currently in progress on site of the old Fortfield Hotel, and in Mill Street, for example.
And as Not a Developer says, premises at Knowle could be used more creatively…Would part of one car park there be a good site for a new Vets’ surgery? Poorly animals and their anxious owners could then relax in the park to aid recuperation. Wonder if EDDC’s new Member Champion for Health and Welfare, Cllr Peter Sullivan, might promote this idea?
I thought a veterinary surgery was opening in the Old Post Office at Woolbrook. At least planning permission was granted last September.
