‘New homes are going up, but only the developers benefit.’

8 Apr

.so said the headline on the letters page of yesterday’s Observer (p. 34, 07/04/2013). The first letter was from Bob Harvey, Chair of  the Campaign to Protect Rural England, for Plymouth and South Hams. Here’s an extract:

‘…near Plymouth, we have been forced to have a massive new town. Originally, it was to be 50% affordable housing, but the developers pleaded poverty and got this down to 17%. Now the government states that if affordable housing provision holds back building houses, then they can be omitted altogether. So who will buy these unaffordable houses? Chinese investors are already sniffing. ‘

Luckily, in the 2nd May elections, there are candidates who will fight tooth and nail to ensure that our towns and villages are shaped for the best possible future, especially for local people.

Seems that councillors who encourage developers to dictate our landscape, won’t get the CPRE vote!
