East Devon Business Forum airbrushed out of Local Plan employment land sections

17 Oct

Evidence used in the Local Plan submission cites the Tym and Atkins reports.  But these were rubbished by EDDC in favour of the East Devon Business Forum’s higher figures.

EDBF does not see  to be mentioned anywhere at all as the final arbiters of the figures.

Why?

It is quite clear that EDBF had a big influence on the amount of employment land that ended up in EDDC’s local plan. You only have to read EDBF minutes from 2008, where they were congratulating themselves over their achievements! Two expensive independent reports commissioned by EDDC advising much lower levels were overruled in favour of EDBF’s views.

The Local Plan is fundamentally flawed as there is no evidence for the excessive amounts of unsustainable employment land and housing allocations. In respect to the above the two independent expert consultants Atkins and Roger Tyms who made similar estimates on housing and employment requirements were both ignored by the EDDC in favour of their friends at the East Devon Business Forum. The current inflated figures for employment land supply were originally drawn up in secret behind closed doors in consultation with the EDBF who in 2007 presented an unreliable report on land availability to EDDC. As the Forum has subsequently disbanded it would appear the inspector will no longer be able to challenge their misrepresentations.

You can see why EDDC is desperately postponing the EDBF TAFF – terrified everyone will realise what is going on.
